Hi all. I'm looking to buy a cellphone, I'm not looking at the speach friendly accessible ones, nor your fancy tech type ones, but just a regular basic phone that is blind friendly and easy to opperate. Voicemail is all the further in high tech I want. Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

OK, define blind-friendly. If you don't have speech, like myself, you won't be able to do SMS, phone book, etc. using the phone. That said, if you get a Nokia, you can use PC Suite or third-party applications and access a lot of the phone's features. The menus are also accessible by keystrokes, i.e. 3, 1, 2, 2 for ringtones. I never put much thought into what cell phone to get. Look for high battery life and talk time, probably the most important thing. Voice mail comes standard with just about all providers these days.

Thanks for the info. What I meant is that I have blind friends who have regular cellphones that don't talk.

Troy, if you are interested in a cell phone that has talking featuress, Mandy on e-pals posted an article in the tech talk forum about a phone from Singular. It sounds good if that is what you want.

I just got a LG VX4500 with service from Verizon. It won't do SMS and all that great stuff, but the phone does have talking caller ID, and can respond to voice commands, both for digit dialing, and contacts, and it has a voice scheduler. The great part about this phone is that it's just a mainstream phone, and you can get it for $50 with a 2-year contract. Besides that, Verizon has the best network in the country.

Yall,
This option is a little more costly, but I have been highly impressed as my boyfriend took this route and I have seen the outcome. You can get a nokia phone, i don't know what model, altghough I will find out if you like. Then you can put Talks on it. Talks is a software which does just that, talks. You can create phone books, navigate menus, know who's calling etc. etc. Unless I am mistaken, ACB radio's main menu show has a review of the software.
Hope this helps, although yes, Troy, if you can handle just a mainstream phone, that is definitely cheaper. My boyfriend got his cell with the program on it for his graduation present else he wouldn't have it.
Take Care,
God Bless,
Shanda

Kragiel, that sounds like a great deal and I may consider it. Dixy, I did hear that review and I thought it was neat, but also costly. A gift would be the only reason I'd have one of those myself.

I have a nokia 6600, and i put talks on it. it does talk, very very much! But, I have found it usefull, and it has made me able to do messaging, one-touch dialing, the phone book, etc.
